Hannibal was a Carthaginian general. I learned much about Hannibal beyond the well-known fact that he crossed the Alps with elephants (Africa > Spain > France > Switzerland > Italy) The book is a good review of the three wars between Carthage and Rome, called the Punic Wars.

(Punic was the language of Carthage, related to Phoenician.)/5. Interesting book about Hannibal's life during after the Punic wars. The book is an 'easy reader' and doesn't go too much into details, but a good overview of history. Although I enjoyed the book, the reason for giving it 3 stars is that the illustrations and maps are missing in the Kindle by: 2.

Hannibal Barca was probably a black Carthaginian military commander; he became famous for his crossing of the Alps, his strategic brilliance before taking on major campaigns. History reveals the Romans had a destiny of world conquest, but what is less well known is how much Hannibal changed the ways in which the Romans conducted the wars that eventually brought them Pax Romana, a peace often forged out of violence after a brutal expansion that killed and enslaved millions, including Carthage a century after Hannibal.

Gisgo, a commander in the Carthaginian army, sat on his horse nervously as he waited with other members of the staff for their general, the now-famous Hannibal, to complete his final inspection.

Moving easily, like the superb horseman he was, Hannibal detected the apprehension of his staff as he rejoined them for a final appraisal of the situation.

Hannibal by Patrick N. Hunt is the story of a Carthaginian military genius who was one of the most influential players in Roman history. Ultimately Hannibal’s story is that of a brilliant mind who fought against stacked odds, lost, was blamed by his own people for the loss, and all the while still left a lasting impact.

I really enjoyed Hannibal: One Man Against Rome by Harold Lamb. But it depends of what type of biography you are after. One man against Rome is more like an adventure story rather than fact-filled full-with-footnotes biography. But that is how I l.Excellent book for any history buff.

The book is highly recommended to any reader that wonders where have our true leaders gone. Hannibal is a historical masterpiece of Hannibal, and the superpowers at the time, Rome and Carthage. The three wars between Carthage and Rome include astonishing Carthaginian successes - in particular the year campaign of Hannibal in Italy, after his famous crossing of the Alps.

But the end is disaster for the Carthaginians. The final event of this long and brutal conflict is a siege of Carthage by a Roman army and fleet.
